Senior Out-of-School Care Staff
Gina Ho - Director of Childcare Services
Gina began her career with West Richmond Community Centre in 2001 and in 2005, became the Director of Childcare Services. Gina holds a Bachelors in Sciences and a Bachelors in Education from The University of British Columbia. Gina has been passionate about children and teaching at a very young age. As part of her commitment to quality childcare, she is consistently raising the bar in the field of Early Childhood Education and School-age Care. This passion and dedication has helped her build a strong team of staff at West Richmond Community Centre. Currently, Gina sits on the Richmond ECE/School Age training committee and the Child Care Development Advisory Committee for the City of Richmond.
When she’s not at her desk, you can find Gina at the newest restaurants in town, on the volleyball courts, or on a dragonboat.
Dustin Ng - OSC Coordinator
Dustin started with West Richmond Community Centre in 1999 as a summer daycamp volunteer. He found the experience so fun and rewarding that he never left! Since then, Dustin has worked in sports camps, youth camps, summer camps, special events, preschool programs and out-of-school care programs, across nearly all age groups.
Dustin served as the Child Development Head Supervisor of the Junior Out-of-School Care Program from 2006 to 2013. He considers himself a “play specialist” when it comes to working with children. His favourite activities include building large structures with toys and being chased around the playground.
Dustin holds an Early Childhood Educator Assistant certificate and has attended countless hours of child related workshops. In his spare time, he enjoys road cycling, eating soup noodles and playing goalkeeper in soccer. When asked if he wants children of his own, Dustin replies, “I already have hundreds at work!”
Carolyn Kavanagh - Child Development Head Supervisor
Carolyn has worked in childcare for the past 9 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from St. Thomas University. Carolyn started working at West Richmond with preteens in 2005. Since then, she has traveled around Canada and the US, splitting her time between summer camps and ski resorts. As a children’s ski and snowboard instructor, Carolyn enjoyed teaching children as young as 2 years old to ski. When she wasn’t skiing, she was keeping busy inside the daycare with children between the ages of 18 months and 5 years.
After all her traveling, Carolyn moved back to Richmond and returned to West Richmond in 2011 to the Senior Out-of-School Care program. During the day, she enjoys working for the Time for Twos program. When she’s not at either program, you might find Carolyn cooking up a storm in the kitchen at West Richmond, preparing Hearty Snack for the Senior Out-of-School Care program.
Matt Hewitt - Child Development Assistant Supervisor
Matt first started working with children in 2008 as an assistant leader in summer day camp programs with City Centre Community Association. He soon realized where he needed to be - in programs with children. Matt has worked as an annual instructor in a variety of programs during the fall, winter and spring months through to 2014 which included sports classes, drama classes, winter and spring break camps and after-school programs. During the summers of 2010-2014 he worked as a supervisor with City Centre in both their senior and junior aged day camps. He joined the West team in fall of 2014 and hasn't looked back since.
When he is not in programs, you can find Matt kicking around a soccer ball, doodling on a notepad, trying to spike a volleyball, taking a nap or two, or spending quality time with friends and family. Matt is incredibly thrilled to be a part of this awesome team and to be able to work with such an amazing group of kids.
