Melting Pumpkins

The idea of taking a small white pumpkin, adding crayons and fusing them together, resulted in some over the top creations over the last week at Sr. OSC. Inspired by a simple idea we saw online we went to our local pumpkin patch to find the perfect pumpkins and to borrow a much needed heat gun to experiment with.

The kids at Sr. OSC started off the activity by hot gluing crayons to their pumpkin. Some chose to use large pieces of crayon scattered around the top of their pumpkin, while other meticulously placed small pieces of crayons around the sides of their pumpkin to try a different look. Each pumpkin had a different flair and to be honest the biggest hit was the puddle of crayon at the bottom of the pan that had melted together after the experiment was complete. Take the time and to check out the video below to see how it all went down and what took place that crazy day.

Just a side note all pumpkin melting was done by a supervised and experienced leader, none of which were beyond excited to actually experiment with such a cool piece of equipment. The smiles and astonishment on the leader's... I mean kids faces were well worth the time spent on such a cool task.
