Making Stuffing for Thanksgiving & Lanterns for our Upcoming Festival - 4 Year Old Class
October 13, 2016, 08:00 AMI began by talking a little about Thanksgiving in our
morning circle and some of the children spoke about what was on the snack
table, which we had set up as a cooking table. I then explained that we are
going to do some cooking today. Some of the children were excited to get
started and others not so much, I would guess the concern of some of the children was
if they had to eat it. I of course assured them, it was for them to share
with families for Thanksgiving dinner.

Autumn Leaves - 4 Year Old Class
October 12, 2016, 09:00 AM
The children enjoyed using watercolours on starched
felt. The outline of various leaves were drawn with permanent marker,
preventing the outline from running. The water colours however, seeped and
absorbed into each other, giving the leaves the look of beautiful Autumn
colours.
Charlie –
The water is turning coca cola colour.
The leaves are changing because the temperature is different.
Happy Autumn!!

Making Cranberry Sauce - FAS M/W/F AM
October 11, 2016, 02:28 PM
In light of
Thanksgiving, we made Cranberry Sauce in class to share with the family.
First, we measured 2 cups of sugar. We melted
the sugar and 2 cups of water in a pot.
Here are the
step-by-step instructions for our cranberry sauce:
We waited for the sugar and water to melt
and boil.
Then, we added 6 cups of cranberries into
the pot.
We then needed to wait patiently until
we heard the cranberries “popping” in the pot.
We then mashed the cranberries.
Thereafter, we turned off the stove and let the sauce cool.
As it was cooling, we juiced an orange to
add some citrus flavour to our sauce. We learned that we first needed to cut the
orange in half. Then, we used the orange juicer to extract the juice. We needed to
push and turn the orange until we got all the juice out.
Color Exploration (Fine Arts & Science T/Th class)
October 7, 2016, 08:00 AM
Last month in our class, we talked about colors. At the art table,
I gave the children a chance to explore and mix colors with paint. We painted
with corks and with only the primary colors- red, blue and yellow. I
intentionally put out the three colors to see how the children will create and
paint with them. At the start of the activity, the children were fascinated in
making “big dots” on their paper. They got one color at a time and made sure
that the “big dots” were not touching each other.
Alessandria started to put one color on top of each other and discovered new colors. She started to see some green and dark dark dark orange.
Sabrina used the blue and red at the same time. She kept mixing
the colors until she was satisfied with the purple that she made.
Sarah dipped one cork in all the colors. She was ecstatic in
saying “ I made a rainbow color! I see red, orange, yellow, green, purple and
blue in one dot!”
This activity made me remember that as an educator it is important
to set-up activities and provide materials that will allow children to create
new discoveries for themselves. The children taking the lead in their learning
as we support and scaffold them.
Watch out for my next blog, as we discover the colors of fall.
Until next time,
Patricia
I See A Rainbow (4 Hour Class)
October 4, 2016, 08:00 AM
ORANGE
YELLOW
GREEN
BLUE
PURPLE
When we were done with all the colors, the
colors of the rainbow were brought to the art table. The children were provided
with red, orange, yellow, green and purple paint. They painted with some old
gift cards. The gift cards were used to spread paint on the paper.
Nathan only used
his favorite colors in making his own rainbow.
Adonis mixed a lot
of colors on one gift card so he could make a rainbow with one swipe of the
gift card on his paper.
Sofia made sure that the colors of her rainbow did not overlap with
each other.
Here are some of
our finished “rainbow” paintings.
Come check out our
bulletin board outside our classroom to see more pictures and paintings.
Until next time,
Patricia
