What is happening at Sr. OSC?!?

The children at Sr. Out-of School Care have been keeping busy with a variety of new activities and games. We are always looking for new and exciting games that are not only challenging for the kids but brings out much creativity and of course emphasis on fun. Just in case you have missed it we have livened up the room and here are just a few of the games and art activities they have been up to for the past month.

Our new "Welcome" banner is up! We have removed the old one and replaced it with the new.  The next time you come by try and find your child's name on the banner.

A new twist on a old game, try and get the little marble inside from start to finish while moving the ball through the maze. You have concentrate and be patient.

Our new favortie card game; Ratuki! Popular among all the children here and very easy to play. Try to race to five, but do not forget to call out Ratuki to collect your points.

Be creative and innovative: Bridge Building with Dennis and friends!

Tye Dye Extravaganza!

The finished product! Carolyn had fun planning and running this fun tye dye day for the children.

Fun with clay, hooray!

We are always looking for new and fun activities to challenge the children. Here are just some of the fun things we have going on at Sr. Out-of-School Care, we look forward to our next project and hope that you got a glimpse of the things we enjoy every day.

Bye for now,

Mercedes

Environmental Exploration

OSC has started working on an environmental awareness project. The purpose of the project is to build awareness about the environment and to learn about sustainable resource practices such as ‘reduce, reuse, and recycle’. So far Nolan and Jasmine have been very productive in creating a script for a video on a news report regarding energy conservation. The children are being guided through the research process for their chosen topics in order to find facts to help strengthen their message. This week we will be shooting and begin editing their videos and our goal is to hopefully show our final project when all is complete.

More to come,

Peter

Challenge Accepted!

Greetings All,

As we continue into fall a new challenge has arrived at our Out of School Care program. This challenge presents the children with an opportunity to earn tokens while following the guidelines listed on our challenge board.   As a group they can earn tokens by signing in and out, following the rules, washing their hands, cleaning up and being polite. They can also earn tokens individually by being good leaders, including others, and being accountable for their actions.  Our ultimate goal for this challenge is to encourage children to be respectful and responsible.

Take care,

Carolyn

Mmmmm.. Delicious!

OSCuisine Presents:

Veggie Pizza

We taught a group of kids the process of planning out a homemade veggie pizza meal. From preparation time to portions and budget, the kids had a full pizza baking experience while staying nutritious. The children learned how to knead the dough and roll it out and how to add the perfect amount of toppings for an even bake.  In OSCuisine we like to put the emphasis on healthy alternatives that appeal to kids.

All hands on deck.

Turkey Sliders & Sweet Potato Chips

Sometimes we just have to think out of the box, instead of cheeseburgers and fries, we created turkey patties with goat cheese and onion, served on a whole wheat and oat bun with baked sweet potato chips. Healthy and convenient, this was a perfect meal for those short on time. The children had fun mixing the ground turkey and all the other ingredients with their hands and of course indulging in the meal afterwards.

Slicing and dicing.
Until next time,

Adam

Fun on a Pro D day!

On Friday during Gilmore and Quilchena’s Pro D day we took advantage of the nice weather and spent the majority of the day outside.  Brice, Noah, Rhyann , Alex, Ian and Carolyn skated the day away on their longboards and skateboards.  Soon everyone was outside soaking up the last of the rays before the day turned to rain.  Junior OSC was over for a visit and joined us outside armed with chalk.  Together we combined longboarding with chalk and a mural was born!  Just as Junior OSC headed back to West Richmond the rain fell down leaving us a blank canvas for another day!

Rain, rain, go away, come again another day.

Smiles,

Carolyn

When chalk and longboards meet a new activity is born.

A little tune up goes a long way when it comes to caring for your longboard.
